Abstract

|
Purpose : This research is to confirm the positive effect of a positive psychotherapy program on nursing students¡¯ self-esteem and stress.
Methods : The subjects were 71 students who were attending J College of Nursing and we placed 36 students in an experimental group and 35 students in a control group. We conducted total 8 sessions of the positive psychotherapy program once per week and for 120 minutes per session. We used the x2-test and the Fisher¡¯s exact test for homogeneity of general characteristics of the experimental group and the control group. We analyzed an average difference of a preliminary test and a post test for students¡¯ self-esteem and stress by using the independent t-test.
Results : The results show that the positive psychotherapy program increased students¡¯ self-esteem and reduced their stress.
Conclusion : Therefore, the positive psychotherapy program improves students¡¯ mental health by helping them focusing on positive emotions.
